What is the SustainaKit Project?

The SustainaKit project is turning sustainability awareness into action 💪

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, SustainaKit aims to strengthen sustainability competences in Vocational Education and Training (VET), with a special focus on culinary education across Europe. The project supports educators, trainers, and learners in integrating sustainable practices into everyday teaching and professional routines.

To achieve this, SustainaKit is developing innovative and practical resources, including:

📘 SustainaKit Handbook – a comprehensive guide for VET teachers and learners, focusing on sustainable practices, responsible consumption, and environmentally friendly approaches in the culinary sector.

🧰 SustainaKit Toolkit – an interactive collection of activities, exercises, and learning resources designed to make sustainability education hands-on, engaging, and applicable in real-life culinary settings.

💻 Open-access Website/Platform – available in five languages, providing free access to all project materials, learning modules, and educational tools, ensuring inclusiveness and wide European impact.

🤝 What Has Been Done So Far?

Kick-Off Meeting – #SustainaKit Project

On 6 November 2025, the partners of the Erasmus+ project “SUSTAINKIT” (2024-1-SK01-KA220-VET-000243313) met in Bratislava, Slovakia, for the official Kick-Off Meeting, hosted by Topcoach, s.r.o. 🇸🇰

This meeting marked the beginning of a strong and inspiring European collaboration. Partners discussed the project’s vision, objectives, work packages, expected results, and dissemination strategy. Special emphasis was placed on how to actively engage VET teachers and learners in adopting sustainable practices within culinary education.

The Kick-Off Meeting laid the foundations for effective cooperation and a shared commitment to promoting sustainability in vocational training across Europe.

🔧 Work in Progress: Developing the SustainaKit Handbook

The project is currently progressing through the development of the SustainaKit Handbook. So far, partners have:

  • Identified the key learning outcomes for sustainability-oriented culinary education
  • Defined the main structure and sections of the Handbook
  • Begun the development of the four core learning modules, which form the backbone of the project’s educational content:

Module 1: The importance of sustainability in culinary VET centres
Focuses on why sustainability matters in vocational culinary education and how training centres can play a leading role in the green transition.

Module 2: Responsible consumption
Explores sustainable consumption practices for culinary centres and individuals, promoting conscious choices in sourcing, purchasing, and usage of resources.

Module 3: Food waste and use of KM0 products
Provides practical tips to reduce food waste and highlights the benefits of using KM0 (local and seasonal) products in professional kitchens.

Module 4: Implementation of less consuming culinary techniques
Introduces environmentally respectful culinary techniques, supporting energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainable cooking methods.

🌍 Looking Ahead

SustainaKit is building more than educational materials; it is fostering a culture of sustainability within culinary VET across Europe. By combining research, collaboration, and practical learning tools, the project empowers educators and learners to become active contributors to a greener future.

Together, we are shaping sustainable skills for today’s kitchens and tomorrow’s society.
Stay tuned as SustainaKit continues to transform good practices into meaningful action.
